What is Church Council
Council is comprised of 10 church members elected by the Congregation who are responsible for management of the church in between the annual Congregational Meetings which take place in December each year. Some Council responsibilities include making policies, appointing new ministry teams, task forces and other groups deemed appropriate to carry out the work of the church. Council is responsible for all fiscal matters including payment of bills and to make recommendations to the Congregation on matters that require action. Lastly, Council has responsibility to care for the property of the church including all buildings and grounds inside and out. All Council duties and responsibilities are outlined in the First Church of Lombard Constitution and By Laws.
The Church Council meets on the third Monday of each month at 7 PM and meetings are open to all members of the Congregation.

Church Council Members
The Moderator’s role is to preside at all meetings of the congregation and to serve at the chair of Church Council

The Vice Moderator’s role is to preside at all meetings of the congregation and Church Council in the absence of the Moderator.
The Church Clerk is responsible for keeping an accurate record of proceedings of meetings.
The Treasurer’s role is to record all financial transactions of the church and to authorize payment of bills for approved expenditures of the church.
Christian Formation is responsible for initiating, coordinating, administering, and evaluating educational ventures of the church, and will recruit, train, and support member who staff these efforts.
Management is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of all properties of the church, and for the physical equipment of the church.
Parish Life is responsible for all the evangelism and church growth programs, including outreach to new residents, new member orientation and assimilation and the development of publicity materials.
Wider Church is responsible for leadership in developing, supporting, and encouraging projects and activities, local and world-wide, for Christian service, and will formulate recommendations to the Church Council and/or the congregation as to the committing of funds and the use of time and talents of the membership for the external mission program of the church.
Worship is responsible to work with the Minister in all mattes relating to worship. It will advise and assist the Minister by providing music, readings and the theme of services. Team members will be responsible for sanctuary decorations and preparing the elements for the communion and the rites and sacraments of the church.
Youth Ministry is responsible for initiating, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programming focused on 6th grade through high school youth of the church and will recruit, train, and support members who staff these efforts.
